University City Partners Statement on Centene East Coast Headquarters

CHARLOTTE, NC, August 19—Today, University City Partners released a statement about a change of plans for Centene’s East Coast headquarters in Charlotte.

Statement:

Centene saw the value University City presented for their investment plans in the Charlotte region. While it is disappointing to learn about their change of course, this offers a great opportunity to another company that desires to relocate or expand to an area that offers access to a turnkey campus with all the amenities that today’s workforce is looking for in an employer. University City, the second largest employment center in the city, serves large and small businesses, start-ups, and research institutes in the financial, healthcare, technology, and communications sectors like Wells Fargo, TIAA, Duke Energy, Electrolux, FoxSports, EPRI and the Polymer Center.

NC was recently recognized as the top state to do business in the country. With Charlotte being in a strong economic position, there has rarely been a better time to recruit companies, particularly to an asset like the one that Centene will complete. The 130-acre site is occupied by an amazing office campus that offers flexibility in how the remainder of the site may be used. Our vision for the University Research Park recognizes the need for a mixed-use, dense environment with excellent access to UNC Charlotte, as well as unparalleled transportation infrastructure and access to talent.

With a strong talent pool of graduates from UNC Charlotte, the region’s public research university with over 30,000 students, and experienced professionals who live near or easily accessible to University City, we have seen a rise in diverse housing, dining and entertainment options, as well as a robust network of greenways in and around our area. The proximity to work appeals to those seeking more work-life balance. University City is a great place to live, work, learn and play.
