The International Film Festival is hosted by UNC Charlotte’s Department of Languages and Culture Studies and the Chinese, French, German, Iranian, Nihon, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish student organizations.

The festival features the the rich world of contemporary films from Brazil, Chile, China, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Mauritania, Mexico, Nicaragua, Russia, South Korea, Spain, and Uruguay.

Viewings and special programs take place at the Student Union, McKnight Hall or at the Center City building. The Film Festival website provides the complete schedule, locations, parking options and links to detailed movie descriptions.

Special programs with some films

Some films are accompanied by lectures, including tonight’s 7 pm viewing of “Hiroshima Mon Armour,” a 1959 French film shot in France, Japan and Mexico. Massoud Hayoun, an award-winning news producer for Al Jazeera America, will give an introduction of the film at 6 p.m.  In Summer 2015, he published an article on the film, based on an interview he conducted with actress Emmanuelle Riva.
