Local Bookstores for Book Lovers

If you haven’t been to Urban Reader Bookstore, you’re missing out. The newly opened Black-owned store in University City houses over 3,000 books for readers of all ages. There, you will find not only a great selection of books, but special programs, discussions, and colorful artwork from local artists along its walls.

Other notable options residing in the Charlotte metro area, with a few bookstores under 3 hours away — that are worth the trip — made the list.

    My significant other, Gail Haley, lives in the University area and I would like to introduce you to her work as an award-winning author/illustrator of children’s books. Go to the website gailehaley.com Gail wrote and illustrated the first storybook about a black god entitled A Story A Story. She now celebrates the 50th anniversary of that book having received the prestigious Caldecott award.
