University City Partners welcomes its newest members of the UCP Board of Directors: Charlotte City Manager Marcus Smith and Michael Fung, a regional leader for Wells Fargo’s Corporate Properties Group.

The University City Partners Board of Directors consists of 23 business and civic leaders who set the direction of our nonprofit organization and donate many hours each year of invaluable expertise in planning, development, business recruitment and community service.

Meet Michael Fung

Michael Fung is a Regional Leader for Wells Fargo’s Corporate Properties Group. His team provides facility management oversight for over 40 company locations in the Carolinas, with 30,000 team members.

He has 27 years of leadership experience in commercial real estate and the hospitality industry. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Fung held positions with Bank of America, Accenture, Cousins Properties and Ritz-Carlton hotels. He is an active member of CoreNet and BOMA Carolinas. He has served on boards for the YMCA and the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.

Fung is a graduate of Guilford College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.  He has lived in Charlotte for 16 years with his wife, Savannah, and their two children.

Meet Marcus Jones

Charlotte City Manager Marcus D. Jones has spent the last 23 years in public service. Prior to becoming our city manager last December, Jones served as the city manager of Norfolk, Va., where he helped Norfolk build on its competitive advantages as the urban core of a region of more than 1.7 million people.

Jones has extensive experience managing complex budgets. As a deputy secretary of finance for two governors of Virginia, Jones gained a strong reputation for his ability to negotiate complex financial and legislative issues across party lines.

Jones earned his Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from James Madison University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. Jones and his wife, Jillian, have three children.

Thanks to Tim Britt and Bob Wilhelm

Michael Fung is replacing fellow Wells-Fargo representative Tim Britt on our board. Thanks, Tim, for your contributions to University City Partners and our Economic Development Committee.

Also, thanks to current board member Bob Wilhelm for agreeing to serve another term on the board. He is UNC Charlotte’s vice chancellor, research and economic development, and has served on our Nominating and Governance Committee.
