Welcome to the Grand Opening of the University City Regional Library!

📚 Welcome to the Grand Opening of the University City Regional Library! 🎉

University City Partners is thrilled to welcome Charlotte Mecklenburg Library to its newest home in the heart of University City Town Center! This milestone was made possible through a dynamic partnership between Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Gensler, JE Dunn, EB Arrow, and University City Partners—all working together to create an innovative and inclusive space for our community.

🏛️ A $40 Million Investment in Knowledge & Community
Standing before this 35,000-square-foot, two-story facility, Keith Stanley, President & CEO of University City Partners, reflected on the power of libraries in shaping lives. “I remember my young days when I had hair and a high-pitched voice,” Stanley joked. “I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for libraries like the Finney Library, which provided the resources and opportunities I needed.” He emphasized that this new library will inspire many future Keith Stanleys, George Dunlaps, and Charles Muttis—leaders who will walk through these doors and gain knowledge to shape their futures.

🎨 Designed for Learning, Connection & Inspiration
Keith Frankel, Design Director & Architect at Gensler, shared the vision behind the library’s design, focusing on its accessibility, welcoming environment, and strategic use of daylight for comfort and engagement. With clear sight lines, a mix of quiet and collaborative spaces, and breathtaking views of the lake, the library is a true hub for learning and connection.

📖 More Than Books—A Space for Collaboration & Growth
Everett Blackmon, Access Services Manager, expressed his excitement about the expansive space for community gatherings and an all-new collection of books and resources available to the public. “We have everything you’re looking for—this library is here to serve YOU!”

🏗️ A Library with Purpose & Impact
The architectural design also embraces passive solar strategies, ensuring a bright, comfortable space for visitors to read, work, and reflect. As visitors step inside, they will find dedicated areas for study, collaboration, and engagement, all with stunning views of the surrounding mixed-use environment and water feature.

🌟 A Space for All Ages & Stages of Life
From children discovering their love for reading to students preparing for their futures to professionals seeking a place to work and connect—this library is a place for everyone.

🙌 Special Thanks
A heartfelt thank you to Darlene Heater, former Executive Director of University City Partners, whose leadership and dedication played a pivotal role in making this new library a reality.
