Cheers to Community: A Look Back at the 9th Annual University City Wine Fest

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, the Shoppes at University Place became the epicenter of celebration as the 9th Annual University City Wine Fest brought together thousands of wine lovers, music fans, and local foodies for an unforgettable afternoon along the lakefront.

Presented by University City Partners, Wine Fest featured over 100 wines from more than 25 wineries, plus hand-selected craft beers, ciders, and cocktails. Guests roamed the boardwalk with a glass in hand, enjoying lake views and lively entertainment.

A Toast to Taste

With unlimited tastings included in every ticket, attendees had the opportunity to discover everything from bold reds and crisp whites to refreshing cocktails mixed on-site by some of Charlotte’s top mixologists. Local bartending legends like Bob Peters (Chiefs), Kelsey Case (Boardwalk Billy’s), Ashley Sarkis (Yunta), and Everett Clark (Proximity Holistic Mixology) offered guests one-of-a-kind cocktail creations that added flair to the day’s experience.

As one guest shared, “This was by far the best Wine Fest I’ve been to in Charlotte. The vibe, the energy, the drinks—everything was on point!”

Rhythms by the Lake

The soundtrack of the day came courtesy of The Abraham Staten Experience and DJ Knight, who brought high-energy performances to the lakeside stage. As music echoed off the water and glasses clinked in cheers, the boardwalk turned into a celebration of rhythm and community.

Local Flavor and Vendor Fun

The festival showcased more than just beverages. Pop-up vendors, boutique retailers, and local culinary talent turned the event into a full-sensory experience. Food vendors like Banh Mi Brothers, Donut I Love U, The Mexican Medusa, and Hot N Dog ensured that guests stayed well-fed throughout the day.

A returning attendee remarked, “This event keeps getting better. There’s something magical about sipping wine while walking the boardwalk and discovering new local businesses.”

A Vibrant Community Experience

The festival drew a crowd of approximately 7,800 attendees, yet it maintained an intimate, community-forward atmosphere. According to a post-event survey conducted by University City Partners, over 75% of attendees were first-time visitors, with the average group size being nearly three guests. Sponsors like Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Greystar, Novel University Place by Crescent Communities, Parks Chevrolet, and University City Partners received strong brand engagement during the event.

What’s more, 96% of attendees surveyed said they are “very likely to return” for next year’s festival—underscoring the event’s continued momentum and broad appeal.

Supporting a Stronger University City

A portion of Wine Fest proceeds benefited the University City Foundation, helping to support future community programming, local business initiatives, and placemaking efforts in the district.

As University City Partners President & CEO Keith Stanley shared, “Wine Fest is more than a great time—it’s a showcase of the vibrancy and spirit of University City. It brings people together and creates lasting memories. We’re incredibly proud of this year’s turnout and what it means for our community.”
