Charlotte is at a pivotal moment, with the chance to shape a brighter, more inclusive future.
The City of Charlotte has proposed a $400 million bond referendum this election season that will invest in critical projects for affordable housing, transportation improvements, and neighborhood development that will benefit generations to come.
In University City, that means identifying areas of need. Pedestrian safety and mobility is one of the 10 strategies of the University City Vision plan, and will be a key focus area when planning for our future. University City Partners will be working closely with the City of Charlotte to pursue and fund pedestrian mobility projects in addition to the many projects currently underway such as the JW Clay Streetscaping and I-85 Bridge connection to University Research Park.
University City is the fastest-growing neighborhood in the Charlotte metro area, with 117 people moving here daily on average. That means, in order to keep up, we need to produce housing that all can afford. University City Partners maintains close connections with area organizations and developers working on residential projects in University City. With more investment in projects with affordable housing, we continue to work and push for development that benefits everyone, regardless of economic standing.
In addition to these initiatives, University City Partners will focus on enhancing our comprehensive transit network. This includes improving the Blue Line Extension and existing bus routes, as well as establishing a microtransit network in the area. We are committed to collaborating with our municipal partners to enhance transit options for the community.
