Farmers Market Spotlight: The Farm at Dover Vineyards

We caught up with Elizabeth Anne Dover Bishop, owner of Dover Vineyards, to ask her why she participates in the University City Farmers Market each year.

Join us each Saturday through October from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at NOVEL University Place, 6010 Jasmine Lane, in University City.

When did you open and what was the main reason?

We opened Dover Vineyards in 2009 in order to preserve green space in a rapidly urbanizing area.

How long have you set up at University City Farmers Market?

We have participated in the University City Farmers Market since 2021.

What keeps you coming back?

We love the location! It’s so close to our farm in Concord, and we love the partnership with Atrium Health.

What can people expect from you at the Farmers Market?

We provide locally grown fruits and vegetables from our farm, as well as other local farms. Our jams and jellies are made with our locally grown produce and allow us to repurpose “unsellable” produce in a way that generates income. We sell 20 different types of jam – strawberry, blackberry, peach, peach and white wine, strawberry rose, pepper, tomato, jalapeno, and more.

We have the best selection of produce because we work with about 30 farmers and artisans throughout a 1.5-hour radius of the farm. We do not sell our wine at the market, but it is available at the farm stand in Concord.

Why is it important for you to participate each year?

The Farmers Market gives the community access to fresh fruits and vegetables and allows them to interact in a new way with their neighbors.

How can people visit you?

They can visit the farm stand anytime, but tastings are by appointment only. We have live music on Saturday nights from 5-8 p.m., and no appointment is needed during this time.

The Farm at Dover Vineyards is located at 3600 Concord Parkway, Concord, N.C. 28027. Hours are seasonal. Check Instagram or Facebook for updated information.
