10th Annual University City Turkey Trot: What You Need to Know

Nov 15, 2023 | Uncategorized

Start Thanksgiving Day right at the 10th annual University City Turkey Trot on November 23! Register by November 22.

Here are a few things you need to know about this year’s race.

You don’t have to be a “runner.”

This is a 5K walk/run, designed for all of University City to enjoy. Route information can be found here

There will be food and drinks.

Pre-game before the big turkey event with fruit and bagels, coffee, hot chocolate, and more, plus music and games.

The race benefits a great cause.

The University City Turkey Trot benefits patients and families affected by Sickle Cell Anemia. “The 5K was inspired by a dad who was an avid runner, whose son lived with Sickle Cell Disease, a heredity illness,” said Dagny McDonald, a race co-director. “The race is a way to build broader awareness and educate others about this illness that does not get a lot of attention.”

Sickle Cell Partners of the Carolinas was established in 2009 to provide a network of support for patients and families affected by Sickle Cell Anemia. A portion of race proceeds will help provide blankets, shoes, socks, and other critical items to hospitalized patients.

Costumes are encouraged.

Come in your best turkey costume, or get wild in other ways for the race’s costume contest.

Bring non-perishable food items.

Help your University City brothers and sisters in need by bringing in non-perishable items, like canned goods, pasta and sauce, boxed rice, etc. Items will be donated to the St. Martin de Porres food pantry at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church.

University City Partners is a proud sponsor of this year’s race.

See you there! For more information, visit universitycityturkeytrot.com.
