UNC Charlotte art students display work at Real African Art gallery

Apr 19, 2023 | Arts & Culture, UNC Charlotte

A group of University City community partners recently came together to support 13 UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture students to offer them tools and resources on how to run a small business in the creative industry.

The Creative Entrepreneurship program is a two-day workshop that aims to provide art students, who are pursuing careers as professional artists, an opportunity to get a sense of what it is like to be in the business of arts in Charlotte.

Students received a stipend, space at Real African Art gallery in University City, plus access to experts who provided guidance and advice on small business ownership and more.

“This opportunity couldn’t have presented itself at a better time in life,” said student Teriyana Wright. “I feel like we all have asked ourselves at some point, How can I make what I love to do work for myself and my future? Between balancing everyday life, creating artwork, school, and trying to teach myself how to run a business, it gets overwhelming. This workshop was … very informative and a tool that could help me find solutions.”
