When: Sunday, January 1, 2023 at 10 a.m.

Start: The Shoppes at University Place, 8956 JM Keynes Dr.

Finish: 9041 Robert D. Snyder Rd. at UNC Charlotte

University City greenways make great race routes.

We’re changing things up and taking this year’s race route through University City’s beautiful greenways.

Parking is free.

Parking is free near the starting line at 8956 JM Keynes Dr. Better yet, ditch the car and take the light rail to LYNX Blue Line station JW Clay Blvd., which is a short walk from the starting line. (VIP participants can park in the CRI Deck on campus where the race will end and post-event celebration will take place.)

We’ve gone green.

Our goal is to eliminate as much waste from University City Partners events as possible. Event partner Envision Charlotte will help us create as little waste as possible with a goal of zero waste for future events. This includes the introduction of compostable food supplies, virtual swag bags, modified water stations, and more.

You don’t have to be a “runner.”

Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a longtime runner, casual jogger, walker, or just want to come out to support a great cause and have fun. All you have to do is lace up and know you’re doing something positive for yourself and the community.

You’ll help the community.

Funds from the Charlotte New Year’s Day 5K will benefit University City Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing community development, community building, and placemaking programs and projects in the University City market area.

There’s a fun post-race celebration.

We’re talking about a street party, complete with music, warm drinks, and beer samples from a local brewery, and brunch with all the good stuff. And why not? You’ve earned it.
