Charlotte is planning a major overhaul of how it guides future development – and it wants YOUR help.
The city invites us all to take part in the UDO Summit on March 24. Learn why City planners believe the Unified Development Ordinance will help us create the livable, healthy urban Charlotte of the future. Then learn how you can help shape that vision.
Here is what Charlotte planners say about the summit and the Unfied Development Ordiance.
Why attend this summit?
The City of Charlotte is experiencing rapid growth and development, but what can you do as a resident or business owner to influence the outcome of current and future growth?
Attend the What Can UDO Summit, and share your voice to help think Charlotte forward and realize our vision of being a “Livable City for All.”
What exactly is this summit?
This summit will provide an opportunity for the community to share input related to the Charlotte Place Types and Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), a city-wide effort aimed at updating the policies and regulations that guide growth and development in Charlotte.
Basically, the concept of Charlotte Place Types is that before we can write an ordinance for development, we need to define the types of places and communities we want to create. The Unified Development Ordinance then provides the guidelines and rules to encourage creation of those desired places.
What will we do there?
The summit will feature keynote speaker Mitchell Silver, FAICP. Mitch Silver serves as the New York City Parks Commissioner and is internationally recognized for his leadership in the planning profession and his contributions to contemporary planning issues.
Silver was previously the Chief Planning & Development Officer for the City of Raleigh and the President of the American Planning Association.
The summit will also include two interactive workshops, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, which are focused on “Living and Thriving in Charlotte.”
