International Festival booths

Booths representing more than 50 nations fill the plaza outside the Barnhardt Student Activity Center in 2016

University City is a highly diverse community, and so is our university, with more than 2,000 students and 150 faculty and researchers drawn from almost 100 countries. The region’s biggest celebration of that global diversity takes place 10 am-6 pm Oct. 14, as UNC Charlotte hosts its 42nd annual International Festival.

More than 20,000 people are expected for the 2017 festival. The event’s centerpiece is a colorful marketplace of booths in and around the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. Booths will feature arts, crafts and costumes from more than 50 nations. Many booths will also have food for sale.

Visitors can enjoy music and dance performances throughout the day, plus many international games and activities for children.

Two of the day’s high points are the Festival of Music and Dance, beginning at noon, and the Parade of Nations at 2 p.m.

Admission is free, as is parking at the nearby West, Union and Cone Center parking decks.
