University City Police Officer Chad Webster has been in the news a lot lately – and it’s good news! Webster has made headlines with his personal success of becoming a published author. His debut children’s novel has landed on Amazon’s “Top 10” for Hot New Releases for Kids, Mystery and Detective books.
“Mystery Muffin and Soda Pop Slooth: The Legend of Mr. Creepy” was released on July. 31 by Huntersville-based publisher IngramElliott. Set in a fictional town just outside of Charlotte, “Things take a creepy turn when a new neighbor moves into town a few houses down from Mystery Muffin and her best friend, Soda Pop Slooth,” says a teaser about the new kids’ novel.
Great reader responses
Readers are snatching up digital, paperback and hardcover copies and leaving enthusiastic mini-reviews on the book’s Amazon sales page.
“W.O.W!!! So grateful I had the day off today because I simply could NOT put this book down!” wrote an adult on the book’s Amazon sales page.
“Great book! My 9-year-old would not put it down, loved it,” wrote another.
Making headlines, too
Local media have embraced Webster’s feel-good story of a guy who always wanted to write a book and finally has – with apparent great success.
“I have always enjoyed writing since elementary school. It’s always been my dream to be a writer, Webster told WBTV. The book has been a three-year labor of love, he said.
Hometown ties
Like many authors, Webster created a story and characters based on his own life. The main character, Mystery Muffin, is a composite of his three daughters, he told WCNC TV. Mystery Muffin’s father is a police officer, and she loves investigating strange things.
Even the setting, “a charming small town just outside of Charlotte, NC,” could easily be the community where Webster and his family live.
How much more of the “The Legend of Mr. Creepy” will sound familiar to us right here in University City? There’s only one way to find out: Read the book!
