Railroad Crossing closing on McLean Road at Old Concord Road
Beginning Monday, May 16, crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close the railroad crossing on McLean Road at Old Concord Road in Charlotte.
This closure is part of continued progress on the Harrisburg to Charlotte Double Track project, which will add 12 miles of second track and realign curves along the North Carolina Railroad.
The closure will be in place for approximately 30 days. During this time, motorists will be directed to use Old Concord Road, N.C. 49, Back Creek Church Road and John Russell Road before returning to McLean Road. Message boards will be in place alerting motorists to the closure before it is scheduled to begin.
Back Creek Road Crossing to close next
Shortly after this crossing upgrade is finished, the state will close the crossing at Back Creek Church Road and NC 49 to make the same changes. This crossing upgrade will close Back Creek Road for about 30 days.
This railroad improvement project is one of three that, in total, will add approximately 26 miles of new second track along the main line, providing an uninterrupted double track spanning 92 miles between Greensboro and Charlotte. These improvements will allow trains to pass more frequently, thereby reducing congestion, increasing capacity and reliability and decreasing travel time.
