PORTAL Building: UNC Charlotte’s new launching pad for business ideas

PORTAL Building

The region’s newest networking center for entrepreneurs has opened for business near UNC Charlotte’s North Tryon Street entrance. Gov. Pat McCrory and Chancellor Phil Dubois led the Feb. 28 dedication of the PORTAL building in Charlotte Research Institute.

“The PORTAL building is our Field of Dreams,” Chancellor Dubois proclaimed – a place where businesses and the university can unite in building the next great ideas.

Even as dignitaries clipped a broad green ribbon and green and white streamers fell on the crowd, nine companies with 40 employees were working in nearby offices provided by the Ventureprise venture development program. Another 50,000 square feet of space awaits leases from business clients wanting to tap university labs, faculty and research focused on areas ranging from energy to optoelectronics.
