Festivals for all ages!

University City also is home to the Charlotte KidsFest – a special event just for kids! The mission of the Charlotte Kids Fest is to inspire and motivate young minds with professional artistic, creative, educational and playful experiences that transform a child’s understanding of the world around them and what is possible. Located on UNC Charlotte campus grounds, the festival is divided into four main zones: learn, play, create and discover. With food and fun activities this fall festival is a must on any parents’ calendar! Proceeds from the festival benefit the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation.

Way more than a library!
University City Regional Library is the busiest branch in our county’s nationally recognized library system. The heavily used research area houses special collections ranging from medical materials to an exhaustive database of grant-funding sources. Many adults and children come for the extensive programs. The library often hosts community meetings, too.
University City has great natural escapes – even close to many offices. Twelve miles of greenways link UNC Charlotte, University Research Park, light rail stations and a dozen neighborhoods. UNC Charlotte’s botanical gardens and greenhouse showcase rhododendron, azaleas and other Carolinas flora. Explore our new pop-up parks throughout University City and get lost in Reedy Creek Park and Nature Preserve. The 850-acre oasis includes athletic fields, playgrounds, fishing ponds and a competition-level disc golf course, plus 10 miles of forest trails (watch for deer, beaver, red-tailed hawks and barred owls!) and a nature center that offers programs and camps.
Golf, soccer or cricket, anyone?
Athletes will find many places to play here, including three 18-hole golf courses and three parks with extensive sports fields. A cricket league holds matches at Reedy Creek Park. Mallard Creek Park hosts major youth baseball tournaments.
