LYNX Blue Line Extension

Charlotte Area Transit System completed construction of the Blue Line Extension, Charlotte’s 9.3 mile LYNX light-rail line from center city to UNC Charlotte in 2018. The Blue Line Extension ties into the existing Blue Line light rail service, a 9.5 mile track that currently operates from Uptown to South Charlotte. Four stations serve University City. North Tryon Street has stations at University City Boulevard, McCullough Drive and J.W. Clay Boulevard, with large parking decks at the Clay and University City locations. The terminus station is on UNC Charlotte’s campus. Trains run 5 am-1 am daily, arriving at stations every 10 minutes during rush hour and every 15 minutes at other times.

The new extension to University City uses an existing rail corridor between Ninth Street and North Tryon Street at Old Concord Road. The tracks then move into the North Tryon Street median and continue 4 miles to UNC Charlotte.
