Kids Eat Free daily this summer thanks to hospital, campus

Jun 19, 2020 | Events

Kids Eat Free programMany youngsters and teens in University City often go hungry, and the problem has gotten worse with the closing of public school lunch programs since March.

To fill the gap this summer, Atrium Health University City, UNC Charlotte and their partners provide free nutritious lunches each day plus breakfast for the following day to ALL KIDS ages 18 and younger.

Here are the details for receiving meals via curbside pickup

11 am-1 pm Mondays-Fridays at Atrium Health University City

  1. Go to Atrium Health University City (8800 N. Tryon St. at W.T. Harris Boulevard). MAP
  2. Look for signs and follow the signs near the hospital’s vehicle entrance for curbside meal pickup.
  3. Volunteers will load meals into your car via the passenger window or trunk. You will be given breakfast meals for the next day, too.
  4. You will then be directed to the hospital exit.

11 am-1 pm Saturdays and Sundays at UNC Charlotte’s Student Union

  1. Go to the POPP Martin Student Union, located on Craver Road on the UNC Charlotte campus. MAP
  2. Look for signs directing you to the curbside meal pickup at the student-union loading dock.
  3. Volunteers will load meals into your car via the passenger window or trunk. You will be given breakfast meals for the next day, too.
  4. NOTE: No meals will be provided on Saturday, July 4, due to the holiday
