The next phase of Alexander Village is about to unfold. Crescent Communities, the developer of the mixed-use community on Mallard Creek Church Road, is seeking a rezoning to allow 300 apartments instead of offices along Senator Royall Drive.
As part of the new change, the community is also getting a new name: The Village at Research Park.
The rezoning would maintain the previous plans for a 200-room hotel and up to 75,000 square feet of retail space along Mallard Creek Church Road but would replace 250,000 sf of office space with apartments along Senator Royall Drive.
Crescent is partnering with Crosland Southeast to develop the retail portion, The Charlotte Observer reported.
Crescent has built the first phase of Alexander Village, a 312-unit apartment community. Crescent sold that apartment community last year for $52.3 million.
The Charlotte City Council is scheduled to hear the rezoning request at its Sept. 19 meeting at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, at 600 E. 4th St. Zoning hearings start at 6 p.m.
