Wind Ensemble presents “War and Peace” Oct. 19

Three student musical groups and the Faculty Brass Quintet will present concerts in October. All student performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Anne R. Belk Theater at Robinson Hall. Tickets to each performance are $8. Parking is free.

Oct. 19 – Wind Ensemble presents “War and Peace”

The UNC Charlotte Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Shawn Smith, is the university’s most advanced organization for winds and percussion.  The Oct. 19 concert, “War and Peace,” will feature a wide variety of both traditional and contemporary music including the first movement of Gustav Holst’s popular orchestral suite, The Planets, and Daniel Bukvich’s visceral Symphony No. 1, which depicts the 1945 firebombing of Dresden.

The concert will also commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of the First Lady of the Civil Rights movement, Rosa Parks, with a performance of Mark Camphouse’s stirring A Movement for Rosa. DETAILS AND TICKETS

Oct. 20 Chamber Orchestra Fall Concert

chamber orchestraThe UNC Charlotte Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Govias, represents the highest-level orchestral performance group at UNC Charlotte. The ensemble is devoted to the exploration of the repertoire of the orchestra, as well as the art and science of musical interaction.

The fall concert will include five pieces including Rossini’s “Variations for Clarinet and Small Orchestra, featuring Dr. Jessica Lindsey, clarinet. DETAILS AND TICKETS

Oct. 23 – University Chorale Fall Concert

The University Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Randy Halderman, is a large mixed chorus performing music of many styles from Baroque to modern. GET TICKETS

Oct. 27 – Faculty & Friends Concert Series, featuring the Faculty Brass Quintet

The Faculty Brass Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Rowe Recital Hall in the Rowe Arts Building. Tickets are $18 for general admission, $10 for seniors. GET TICKETS
