‘Anything goes’ Tijuana Flats coming soon to University Place

Jun 9, 2015 | Business Growth

Tijuana Flats will open June 29 at University Place

Tijuana Flats dishes shout straight-up Tex-Mex. The atmosphere shouts “bright, loud and in your face,” says Regional Manager Matt Weekly. “We try to create a unique atmosphere with cool stuff on the walls, great music and great people working for us. … and we’ve got great food.”

Tijuana Flats is one of two distinctively different restaurants opening side by side at University Place: Tijuana Flats on June 29, and Noodles & Company on July 3 (see related article).

The first 50 customers visiting Tijuana Flats on opening day get free burritos – just a small example of the many regular specials like Tijuana Tuesdays – two tacos, chips and drinks for $5.49.

Focus on freshness

Tijuana Flats offers just-fresh ingredients and made –to-order dishes in a fast-casual dining experience. The restaurant chain started in Florida 20 years ago and now has more than 100 locations including a new restaurant that opened in May at 8680 Concord Mills Blvd.

Tijuana Flats serves burritos, chimichangas, quesadillas, tacos, tostadas and enchiladas, each available in numerous variations including vegetarian.

Tijuana Flats says that it uses only “just-fresh” ingredients and hormone-free meats. Dishes have zero trans-fat. Vegetarian beans are prepared lard-free. You can even opt for lower calories with the “Power Lite” option, substituting low-fat cheese and fat-free sour cream in any dish.

Made to order

“Our approach to food is that anything goes,” Weekly says. “We prepare everything in-house and made to order, so whatever you want, we’re going to customize to the best of our abilities. And our hot-sauce bar adds an element of extra customization.”

The hot-sauce bar’s 15 flavors range from mild and sweet to fire-breathing flavors like Smack My Sweet Ass & Call Me Sally Habanero and Jalapeno.

“Hot is the new cool,” proclaims one post on the Tijuana Flats Facebook page.

And when things get too hot, quench that thirst with a variety of beverages including beer, wine and Tijuana Flats’ own margarita.
