You can “drive” I-485 right now!

It seems like they’ll never finish I-485 – especially when you’re crawling through the I-85/I-485 construction zone. Wouldn’t it be great to turn ahead the clock to December 2014 when the barrels come down and the speed cranks up?

You can do that right now! Just fasten your digital seatbelt, click the link, and “drive” into our future!

Of course we mean “drive” figuratively, like the computer-generated tiger Richard Parker in “Life of Pi.”

The NC DOT has created three simulations to help us visualize the emerging I-485 leg between Statesville Road and I-85.

1. TURBINE – One takes viewers on a turn through the innovative “turbine” interchange that designers say will help thousands of motorists flow easily through the I-485/I-85 interchange.

2. DIVERGING DIAMOND – Another video shows how a radical new interchange design called the Diverging Diamond” will get us through the Mallard Creek Road Exit.

3. PURE FANTASY – But our favorite video, a time-lapse construction sequence, fulfills every driver’s dream. Farm fields and woods transform just a hundred yards ahead of your simulated windshield into smooth-running highways, overpasses and interchanges.
It’s like our own “Life of I (485)” – minus the tiger or radar traps!
